We Thought Everyone Was Ready for a Change

For the first time since January 27th, we have canines to tell you about. This came so close to being a tragic story though. Morgana is just under 2 years old. She is a Micro Bully, who unfortunately was mated with a full-sized Pitbull where she lived in St. Louis, Missouri. This resulted in puppies that were too large to pass through the birth canal.
Morgana went into labor Friday evening. Realizing something was not right, it was not until the next day that her owner finally took the exhausted mother to the vet. After she was examined, it was confirmed there was a puppy stuck in the birth canal. An emergency C-section would have to be performed in order to save the exhausted dog and hopefully her puppies.
Not being able to afford the $4,500 it would cost for the surgery the owner surrendered Morgana. Then a plea went out on Facebook for an organization to help. SNUGGLE Pet Rescue responded and accepted full responsibility for the mother and how many ever puppies survived.
The surgery happened Saturday afternoon. Thankfully, one of Morgana's three puppies was able to be saved. Mordred is a nice healthy little boy who is expected to do just fine. Needless to say, mom was feeling pretty beat up after her ordeal, but she has started to get her energy back already. While Morgana was having her C-section she was also spayed, so she will never have to go through another pregnancy like this one which came close to ending her life.
Initially, we thought it best to give Morgana time to recover so we started bottle feeding Mordred. When we did eventually try and put the puppy on his mother to nurse, she wanted nothing to do with him. It's understandable given what she went through. Therefore, we will continue to bottle feed Mordred.
It's nice to have a puppy to care for again, and when they are as adorable as Mordred it's hard not to just sit and be amazed by him. When we think how close he came to never taking a breath outside of the uterus, we are thrilled at how truly fortunate he is to be alive. We just which his siblings had been as lucky.
