The latest arrival is a 2-week-old Jack Russell and Chihuahua mix puppy we have named Camille. She came from a hoarding situation hidden away in a rural part of the state. Thankfully, she was rescued because she had a prolapsed anus that was causing her a lot of pain.
Camille arrived on November 30th. Right after we got her, we took her to our vet. A prolapsed anus in a puppy, also known as rectal prolapse, occurs when the rectum or part of the anal canal is pushed out through the anus. This condition can vary in severity, with the amount of tissue that protrudes ranging from a small part of the anus to a more substantial section of the rectum. In more severe cases, it can cause pain, discomfort and lead to further complications such as infection.
Our vet did a purse stitch on Camille which is a type of surgical suture used to close a wound or prevent the prolapse of an organ. It is typically placed around the anus to prevent fecal leakage and is known for its effectiveness in managing conditions like rectal prolapse. The stitch did the trick, and our little girl is beginning to feel a lot better.
Camille is being fostered along with Midge and Milton, the sister and brother we got on November 21st. So, the trio of puppies are in good company.
