THE REASONS FOR DOING WHAT WE DO
Rescuing orphaned and special needs kittens and puppies who require foster care due to illness or injuries.

Another Dumpster Kitten
This one was not left in a box that had been taped shut and put on top of a stack of flattened cardboard in a recycling dumpster, like Kristina Kringle who we got on November 12th. Instead, Weebles was found on the cold hard pavement behind a dumpster at a BP gas station in Robertsville, Missouri. Fortunately, a customer heard her faint meow and jumped into action. We learned about Weebles just before Christmas and because we did not have a spot for her at the time we asked i

This Box Contained No Gift
It was not wrapped in bright shinny paper but rather it was an ordinary cardboard box with the words The Home Depot printed on the outside. No beautifully tied bow was attached to the top. In its place was boring duct tape doing its job of keeping the lid securely closed. The box was not under a tree to be opened on Christmas morning. It would not even be around by then. This is because it was just days away from being taken to the dump. The box we are talking about was found

Our Puppy Population is Growing
The latest arrival is a 2-week-old Jack Russell and Chihuahua mix puppy we have named Camille. She came from a hoarding situation hidden away in a rural part of the state. Thankfully, she was rescued because she had a prolapsed anus that was causing her a lot of pain. Camille arrived on November 30th. Right after we got her, we took her to our vet. A prolapsed anus in a puppy, also known as rectal prolapse, occurs when the rectum or part of the anal canal is pushed out throug

They Lost Their Mother
We first learned of these two, 5-day old orphans on November 19th. The woman who found them lives in Rolla, Missouri. When she brought them to us, we did not get a lot of information, other than their mother was tragically killed. Midge and Milton are just the 4th and 5th puppies that we have gotten this year. So, it's been fun having them to care for as a change. Both of them are healthy and they sure know how to make their formula disappear. The woman we got them from said

There Was Room in the Inn
A mother cat in Desoto, Missouri knew she had to find a safe place that was dry and warm to have her kittens. After searching she did find a refuge to get in from the weather, but it was certainly not built for a cat. Barkley and Butch were born on November 10th, in an abandoned, old wooden doghouse in a backyard. There was a total of 6 kittens in the litter but by the time someone discovered them, 4 had passed away. Giving the mother time to return, the 2 survivors were even

A Surprise in the Woodpile
On November 6th, while getting his woodpile in order, a man in East Alton, Illinois did not expect to see tucked in between two logs 4 newborn kittens. Thankfully, he spotted them before any logs tumbled down on top of the vulnerable babies. The man and his girlfriend suspected the kittens belonged to a stray cat that has been living in the area for a while. People have tried to humanely trap her a number of times, but she wanted nothing to do with the trap. So, the couple th

First There Were Three Then There Were Four
The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center contacted us this afternoon to tell us, "We have something for you." Brought to the home of one of our Foster Care Volunteers a short time later were 3, 2-day old kittens. All of them were girls, so we named them Madison, Madeline and Margaret. The litter was found today in St. Charles County in a box, that someone had put next to a shed in the yard of the person who lived there. She has done animal rescue work, so it makes us wonder

You Never Know When the Opportunity to Educate Will Pop Up
A young man was surprised to find a single kitten in a yard near his house in St. Charles, Missouri. Knowing there was no way the newborn could survive on her own, he gently scooped her up and took her home. Not sure exactly what to do next, he reached out to a friend who had some experience with newborn kittens. The woman gladly took the kitten but when she saw how young she was, she thought it best to get her into more experienced hands. The 4-day old kitten arrived on Nove

What's With the Toes
In a post we shared earlier today we introduced you to our Polydactyl litter - Ernest, Hemmy and Tippy. It was their combined total of 66 toes that immediately got our attention after they arrived on November 4th. Then there is the other toe litter. Izzy, Lilly and Posey did not have extra toes. Instead, their back feet as well as their tails had what initially looked like frostbite, but after a trip to our vet yesterday, it's looking more like they came in contact with a hot
