Yesterday morning we heard from a woman in Alton, Illinois, desperate to find someone who could take the 3 kittens she found on her front porch. Time was given to allow the mother to come back for her babies, but she never showed up. When we got the photos of the trio, we could tell they were preemies because they had no fur on their feet and ears.

Before arrangements could be made for the kittens to be transferred to our Foster Care Volunteer who specializes in preemies, one of the grey kittens died. The orange kitten passed away shortly after we got him. We had him long enough though to name his Moonie.

The surviving kitten, Moonlight, looked like she might still have a chance but when we started feeding her, she wasn't drinking enough, which was concerning. Our volunteer attempted to get Moonlight to eat more throughout the night, waking up to care for her once every hour.

Sadly, at 6:30 this morning Moonlight passed away in the hands of the person who did absolutely everything possible to save her. When we lose kittens that are with us for even just a few hours it still hurts. We can't help but feel angry at the unfairness of being born, to only live less than a day.
