In the past week SNUGGLE Pet Rescue has received two kittens with leg problems which is unusual. The latest arrival was lying in a yard. The woman who found him kept him for a few days but when she began to realize the little guy with the twisted legs needed more help than she could provide she contacted us. We were told that a second deceased kitten who had twisted legs too, was found a couple days later. It seems pretty likely the two were related and shared a hereditary issue.
Scooter had his first vet appointment this morning to determine what was going on with his back legs. After a 30-minute examination by our veterinarian it was determined Scooter has a problem with his muscles. They are located on top of the leg bones which is causing his feet and kneecaps to turn the wrong way. he muscles can be adjusted which will require an hour and a half surgery. As long as Scooter weighs over 2 pounds the surgery will be on June 16. Otherwise, we will have to reschedule until we can get more weight on this 5-week-old kitten. A second surgery will need to happen eventually to correct the positioning of the kneecaps. It might even be necessary to do some adjustments to his hips too.
Meanwhile, Scooter is eating well and purring which is something we always love to hear. We'll keep you updated on how this little guy is doing in the weeks ahead.
