Orion, alias the Wiggle Worm, appears to not like to have his photo taken. We have been trying for several days to get a clear image of him, and he is just not cooperating. So, you are seeing the blurry version of him. If by chance we get a better photo later, we will be sure to share it so you can see how handsome he is.

Front porches seem to be one of the favored places mother cats decide to leave their babies. Maybe they have a way of knowing that if left on a porch their babies have a greater chance of being found. It's almost as if they are bringing the person living at the house an unexpected, special delivery package.

Orion was found on June 29, on a particularly hot day in Florissant, Missouri. The woman who discovered him knew that the mother might be back to retrieve the tiny black kitten, so she left him alone. What she did do though, was to go back inside and get an electric fan which she plugged in, turned on and put next to the kitten so he would not get too hot.

When it looked as if the mother was not coming back, the woman called SNUGGLE Pet Rescue. We were pleased to hear that she had given the mom time to move her baby. What concerned us though was that he had a fan blowing on him for a good part of the day. If you have been following our Facebook posts, you have heard us say many times that a kitten is most likely to die from being too cold and not from starvation.

Orion became a priority, and we got him to one of our Foster Care Volunteers as quickly as possible. When he arrived, he was cold in spite of how hot it was outside, but our volunteer got to work warming him up to the desired temperature.

As of today, Orion is doing well but often when a kitten arrives very cold it can take several weeks for the effects of this to cause health problems or even lead to their death. We will continue to monitor Orion closely and hope that he'll continue to do well. And we aren't giving up on getting a good photo of him either.
