A church is St. Louis had a surprise visitor over the weekend. This was not the first time SNUGGLE Pet Rescue has gotten a call from a parishioner, asking for our help. Several years ago, we had Fuddles become part of our family. He was an 11-year-old cat that was put into a duffle bag and tucked under the low hanging coats lined up on hooks against the wall. When the bag moved, of course it caused a moment of panic. When the bag was cautiously unzipped there was Fuddles looking up, along with some food and a note saying his family could no longer keep him. One of our Foster Care Volunteers ended up finding our first church cat the perfect new home.
We are not sure how our second one ended up where she did. People are told that if they have a human baby they cannot keep, to drop it off at a fire station. Maybe someone thought a church was a good place to leave unwanted four-legged kids. Kelsey, who is about 4 weeks old, is now in the care of one of our Foster Care volunteers and she is adjusting well to her new surroundings. Shortly after her arrival, she got a bath because she was covered in fleas. Normally we hold off on baths for kittens around her age or younger because we don't want them getting cold. But Kelsey is maintaining her body temperature nicely, so she got a quick once over in the sink, followed by a dose of Capstar.
We have to put some weight on Kelsey in the days to come because she is on the skinny side. She weighs only 5-3/4 ounces instead of the normal 1 pound. It's a good thing she latched onto the bottle right away because it won't take much time to get her filled out.
