Most newborn kittens stay put when their mother goes off to look for food or find a safer location to hide her babies. It seems Wren must not have listened though to his mom's orders to not move. When he grew inpatient waiting, he managed to crawl out from under a set of stairs. This is one determined kitten because he accomplished this at 4 or 5 days old and his eyes are still not even open, so he had no clue where he was headed.
It was a nice young man who found Wren. He knew the mom could be somewhere close by intending to return to her kitten, so he moved the adventurous little guy to a safer spot and then hid hoping after a while the mother would show back up. When she didn't, he called SNUGGLE Pet Rescue.
When our Foster Care Volunteer got Wren late yesterday, she knew immediately he had been very well cared for. He was completely clean, and he was a good healthy size. His mother definitely knew what she was doing, which makes us believe that if there was any possible way for her to come back to him, she would have.
We're grateful to have gotten Wren because who knows what kind of trouble he could have gotten himself into if he had not been found. It's a rough world out there for newborns on their own, but thankfully Wren will never find that out for himself.
Now that we have had our kitten that does not listen almost 24 hours, we are learning he is also a cuddler. When he gets put in his crate, it's like he is seeking out his mother or siblings. Since we can't provide him with either, he has two stuffed animals with the sound of a heartbeat mechanism inside. They aren't the real deal, but when he lays up next to them Wren seems to feel safe and content.
