Firemen to the Rescue

When the orange ball of fur was removed from a storm drain in Sunset Hills, Missouri, she was soaking wet. If the 2-week-old kitten had remained where she was for much longer, we would not have her story to share with you now. We have no idea how long Valencia was in the storm drain or how she even got there in the first place. The firemen did check to see if there were any other kittens, but she was the only one they found.

Before going to our Foster Care Volunteer's home, a detour was made to the vet to have Valencia checked out. She was freezing cold, so the first thing that was done was to get her body temperature up to the desired 100 degrees. After this was accomplished, the vet staff tried to feed Valencia, but she was not taking the bottle like she should have. Thankfully, it turned out she did not like the nipple they had at the vet which is why she was refusing to eat. Once our Foster Care Volunteer got her home and offered her the kind SNUGGLE Pet Rescue uses, she latched right on and started sucking.

We've done everything we can at this point to stabilize Valencia, but kittens like her, who become too cold for too long, run the risk of not being able to overcome the internal damage this can cause. The next 10 days will be the test if she was saved in time.

Our thanks go out to the firemen who rescued Valencia! First responders prove over and over again what a big heart they have when it comes, to not only people, but animals too.
