Our newest Foster Care volunteer comes to SNUGGLE Pet Rescue with six years of valuable experience with newborn kittens. The first litter of week-old babies she was given to take care of arrived in a laundry basket, along with half a can of formula. Learning as she went along, she successfully raised the 3 kittens, and they are now happy and healthy adults.
We have given her another trio of kittens to raise. Darren was found in a driveway when he was about a week old. He arrived with a contagious upper respiratory infection, so he had to be kept separate from our other fosters at the time.
We do not like kittens to be alone. If they are for too long, they can develop Single Kitten Syndrome. When they are by themselves, they miss out on essential lessons on how to socialize and play appropriately. In a litter, kittens give one another feedback, which means their responses to certain behaviors help instill in one another what’s acceptable and what is not.
When Darren was healthy, he joined two younger kittens, Jorge and Miguel, who arrived on Cinco de Mayo, which inspired their names. They were dropped off at the Humane Society of Missouri, who then contacted us to see if we could take them.
Miguel has had some rough days since we got him, but we are happy to report that the three kittens are reaching all their milestones on time now and will be ready to be adopted in 4 to 6 weeks.
