This time the fortunate little girl is Tater Tot. Just 2 days old she was removed from a colony in Washington, Missouri yesterday after her mother rejected her. Last night she was cared for by a wonderful local woman who has temporarily provided basic care for orphaned kittens in the past. She knew how important it was to keep the baby warm and start feeding when the kitten's temperature was where it should be, so Tater Tot was in a good place.

The woman connected with SNUGGLE Pet Rescue this morning, and when she asked if we could take Tater Tot we said yes. She told us how grateful she was because she was concerned about an injury on the kitten's left ear. It looked like a puncture and this morning some swelling had developed. Thankfully, whatever got a hold of Tater Tot did nothing more than just injure her.

When kittens are born outside and don't have a mother to protect them, they often become food for wild animals or birds. After examining the ear, our Foster Care Volunteer believes it is a bite that pierced it. Tator Tot is now on medication and warm compresses have been applied to the ear to help the swelling go down.

Weighing just 2.5 ounces, getting some formula into our newest arrival to build up her strength and help her grow is the priority. Tater Tot has some work ahead of her, as do we, but her chances of surviving are sure a whole lot better than if she had been left in the cat colony.
